Philadelphia International Music Festival December Virtual Solo Performance Camp

Our Virtual Solo Performance Camp – open to all instruments – is designed for advanced student musicians 13-19 years of age that are preparing for upcoming auditions or solo performances.
This competitive online program includes: daily hour-long private lessons with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra; daily 30-minute workout sessions with an assigned faculty accompanists (accompaniment videos are recorded and sent directly to performers prior to the start of the festival); daily hour-long solo performance classes; two daily hour-long music education classes including a choice of: Conducting, Music Theory, Music History, Composition, Music Industry, Battling Performance Anxiety and other class selections; an opportunity to perform in a live-streamed solo recital.

- 30-Minute Workouts with Assigned Accompanist (students work with same pianist throughout the duration of the festival). Participants are emailed prior to the start of the program video accompanist recordings made especially for them by their faculty accompanist

Session Dates
- Winter Program: Monday, December 28th, 2020 – Sunday, January 3rd, 2021 (No camp activities will be held Friday, January 1st, 2021)
10:30 am – Full Festival Meeting with PIMF President Sandy Marcucci and Special Guests from The Philadelphia Orchestra
11:00 am – Solo Performance Class
12:00 pm – Private Lessons
1:15 pm – Lunch at the PIMF Virtual Café
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Music Elective Class A
3:00 – 4:00 pm – Music Elective Class B
4:00 pm – Prepare for 30-Minute Workout with Assigned Accompanist
4:30 pm – Accompanist Workout
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Solo Performance Daily (Five days per week) Lecture Series
6:00 pm – Dinner Break
8:00 pm – Select student performances scheduled on various evenings throughout the festival
Participation in the Solo Performance Preparation Program is by audition only. It is our most competitive program, and fills to capacity each session. We strongly encourage you to audition early!
Audition Requirements:
- 5-10 minutes of current, well-prepared solo repertoire.
- Recordings may be accompanied or unaccompanied.
- Recordings should include two contrasting pieces.
- Please include scales appropriate to your instrument. Examples below:

Virtual Camp Tuition:
Includes daily private lessons, daily solo performance class, daily workout with faculty accompanist, two daily music electives, daily solo performance lecture series, and all evening events/performances.
One-Week Fee: $2400
Festival Hours: 10:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Master Classes and Student Recitals scheduled on various evenings throughout the festival)
Does the virtual program offer the same opportunities as attending in person?
Yes! We carefully crafted our virtual programs to include nearly all of the same opportunities as our on-site festival. In many cases, we have actually added programming to the daily schedules. Students in the Virtual Solo Performance Camp will have the opportunity to participate in daily solo performance class; daily music education courses; solo performances and competitions; daily hour-long private lessons with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra (our on-site Solo Program includes three private lessons weekly); an interactive afternoon solo performance seminar; master classes with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra; and more!
Is it necessary to submit audition materials for the Solo Performance Preparation Program prior to registering?
Yes. Our Solo Performance Preparation Program is a highly competitive music program. For more information about audition requirements, click here.
When is the audition deadline?
This program has an open deadline. We recommend uploading your audition as soon as possible, as once the session is full, students accepted to the program will be automatically placed on a waiting list.
What if I need technical help with submitting my online audition materials?

What technology do I need in order to participate in the festival?
All you need to participate is a computer or laptop with internet connection and video/audio recording capabilities, a quiet room, your instrument, and your brain! In order to make our online programs as accessible as possible, we do not require any subscription to video software, specialized microphones, or external webcams.
What software will be used by students to participate in the festival?
All of our online programs will be taught live through Zoom and/or Skype. However, you do not need a paid Zoom or Skype subscription to participate. A free account is all you will need. We will take care of the rest!

What is the PIMF Virtual Café?
Our virtual café is a place for students to enjoy a delicious lunch at home while chatting with fellow musicians in a relaxed atmosphere online. It is a great place to meet new friends as well as catch up with those you may already know!
What is the last date I can register for the Virtual Solo Performance Program?
Registering as soon as possible is highly recommended as enrollment in the Solo Performance Program is limited. Once the program is filled to capacity, we will mark “closed” on all corresponding website pages.
